Pink Moon

The culmination of the work begun with Worm Moon.  I was tasked with presenting a 1 minute version of Worm Moon.  The trick was to do it in a way that both expanded and compressed layers of nuance without sacrifice.

Pink Moon was a private ritual performed on the April full moon (named for the phlox that bloom).  Just as the Worm Moon is also called the Lenten Moon, the Pink Moon is called the Paschal or Easter Moon.  After all, the dates of Easter –and therefore Ash Wednesday/Lent– are determined by the lunar calendar.

This daylight ritual occurred Easter weekend, at the same site as Worm Moon.  To amplify the idea of sound created with objects holding personal energy of those who offered them, I asked for offerings of hair.  I added my own and created a bow.

While I chose to depart from the structure of the Catholic mass, Easter has a strong visual presence in the mise en scène, which features lilies, pink tulips, and my version of the Paschal Flag.  The Paschal Lamb is replaced by the Spring Chickens, who enjoy a feast of fresh foods harvested in early spring after I complete the sonic ritual.

WORM MOON was written by CLARE MARIE NEMANICH, who played THE CELEBRANT

THE SPRING CHICKENS were ADORASAURUS & BUCKBEAK
